4 stars To define what a society is, is just as impossible as to define life A Functioning Society Selections from Sixty Five Years of Writing on Community, Society, and Polity is a collection of essays selected by Peter F Drucker considered to be the founder of modern management from his own works that represents the full range of Drucker s views on society, community, and political structure, including the rise and fall of totalitarianism, the new pluralism in society, the rise of corporation as a social institution, etc From the beginning of this reading the thing that caught my attention was the fact that texts written for than 70 years remain updated, being possible to trace several parallels between the society of the last century and the today s society However, to comprehend this book and it s logic you have to already know a few economic and legal concepts that you might not comprehend, like the concept of knowledge society or economic pluralism But, it s still a very interesting reading that I recommend if you are interested in books about society, economy, politics, administration, etc.
